The NAGP has been contacted by a number of members expressing concern regarding correspondence received from the HSE on the subject of Community Healthcare Organisation (CHO) meetings. The NAGP council acknowledge the considerable disquiet that has been expressed by GPs over this process.  However, we have also taken the view that discussion and exchange of views between all relevant interests is a vital part of policy formulation.

Following extensive consultation with both members and the HSE, we have received confirmation from the HSE that all CHO meetings will now be held in the evening time to better facilitate GP attendance. The HSE have also agreed to pay each attendee €98.62 to cover travel expenses.

We have been assured that the purpose of these meetings is to consult with GPs in relation to the scope of GP lead roles in the proposed organisation. The HSE has confirmed that GP contract terms and conditions will not be discussed at these meetings.

Attendance at these meetings is entirely voluntary and at the discretion of the individual GP. We understand that the HSE will issue a clarification letter to all GPs in the coming days confirming the above.
